Consumer Electronics Device Developers Benefit from Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS Support for Renesas SH7705MOBILE, Ala., August 3, 2004 - Accelerated Technology®, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced a version of the Nucleus® Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) for developers using the Renesas Technology SH7705 processor, a 133-MHz RISC device from the SuperH family. This software release will give developers using the SH7705 processor a full-featured RTOS to address the high-performance needs of building consumer electronics products such as electronic dictionaries, digital still cameras (DSCs), digital video cameras (DVCs), mobile printers and bar-code readers. The Nucleus RTOS provides a scalable and robust platform that meets the high processing needs of all types of today's embedded systems, and has been widely used in mobile applications. In addition to the ubiquitous Nucleus PLUS kernel, developers implementing the micro-ITRON standard can utilize the Nucleus microiPLUS kernel as well. To round out the offering, other Nucleus products that support the SH7705 processor include the Nucleus SHELL debug tool, the Nucleus NET TCP/IP networking suite, the Nucleus FILE file management system and the Nucleus WebServ embedded Web server software. "When developing complex systems such as consumer and portable products, having an operating system which helps bring the best elements of the microprocessor is critical," said Richard Sessions, marketing director, Renesas Technology America, Inc., the U.S. unit of the joint venture of Hitachi, Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. "The Nucleus RTOS compliments the device advantages and provides an additional level of flexibility and scalability to the SH7705 microprocessor." "Even as devices get smaller and smaller, the number of complex features increases. The Nucleus RTOS meets the needs of consumer electronics developers building these compact, feature-rich applications by providing an RTOS that is scalable and robust, but with a small memory footprint. This allows developers using SuperH processors to choose which capabilities they want for their application," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics.
