Adimos Utilizes MIPS32 4KEp Core from MIPS Technologies in Wireless Video Module
Consumer Electronic OEMs Adopt Adimos WVM Solution for Range of Digital Consumer Applications
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., August 9, 2004 –MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS), announced today that Adimos, a leading provider of wireless multimedia connectivity solutions for consumer appliances, is utilizing the 4KEp™ core in the company’s Wireless Video Module™ (WVM). This new semiconductor technology serves the emerging multimedia home connectivity market by enabling high quality multimedia transmission over a wireless channel between any multimedia source (DVD, VCR, Set-Top Box and Media Servers) and a multimedia display (Plasma TV, LCD TV, home projectors or projection TV). The home entertainment industry is currently experiencing intense consumer demand for wireless multimedia solutions. As home entertainment technology becomes more advanced, consumers want to connect entertainment systems, TVs and PCs wirelessly, throughout their homes. Adimos’ technology is based upon the 802.11a WiFi standard, which operates on a 5-gigahertz frequency, and uses its self-configuring features to recognize other 802.11 devices on a network that is equipped with Quality of Service (QoS) functionality. The Adimos WVM looks for errors in the signal and corrects them, both retrieving and filling in missing information by contacting the source device. “Offering high-quality video and audio content over a wireless channel at the right cost point is key to enabling the digital living room,” said Sandeep Kumar, CEO and president of Adimos. “To help us further penetrate the broadband market, we chose the MIPS architecture because of its wide adoption by OEMs and software developers, and its ability to enable low-cost, integrated devices through high system performance.” “As demonstrated by Toshiba’s early adoption of the MIPS-Based WVM technology, Adimos offers a compelling solution with an optimum combination of low-cost, high-performance and product differentiation,” said Jack Browne, vice president of worldwide sales at MIPS Technologies. “We’re pleased to support companies such as Adimos as they work to bring the promise of the wireless digital home to consumers throughout the world.” About Adimos About MIPS Technologies
