SMIC Joins LSI Logic ZSP Foundry Program Expanding Access to DSP Technology
MILPITAS, Calif. - February 2, 2005 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC), has joined the ZSP® Foundry Program, obtaining a manufacturing license for the ZSP400 and ZSP500 cores. As one of the most advanced pure-play semiconductor foundries in the world, Shanghai-based SMIC is an important addition to the region's manufacturing support of the popular ZSP digital signal processing technology, offering fabless semiconductor companies and design houses access to characterized hard ZSP cores in a cost-effective and flexible manner. Commenting on the benefits of joining the ZSP Foundry Program, SMIC Vice President of Marketing & Sales, Paul Ouyang stated, "By participating in the ZSP Foundry Program and offering industry-leading ZSP cores alongside our advanced manufacturing capabilities, SMIC is able to meet the needs of our customers who are seeking faster time-to-market and greater flexibility for the design and manufacture of their wireless, voice and multimedia products. We look forward to a mutually beneficial and long-lasting relationship with LSI Logic as we continue to expand our suite of intellectual property in China." George Liao, managing director of DSP Division Asia Pacific added, "This announcement significantly strengthens our support for customers in China who now have access to SMIC's world-class manufacturing expertise for their ZSP core-based designs. We continue to see a great deal of innovation within the Chinese semiconductor market and increasing requirements for high performance, low-power signal processing applications, and look forward to extending our relationship with SMIC even further." About the LSI Logic ZSP Foundry Program Through an innovative licensing model, the Foundry Program widens the accessibility of ZSP technology by making it available for integration through semiconductor foundries around the world. The Foundry Program also introduces a new ZSP design-only license for certain cores within the extensive performance roadmap, which lowers the cost of entry to using ZSP technology. By taking ZSP manufacturing licenses, semiconductor foundries are able to offer high performance, low-power signal processing solutions to their customers for multimedia, voice and wireless applications. Initially, the ZSP400 core and the ZSP500 core are available in the program. The ZSP400 is an extremely efficient dual-mac DSP suited to a wide range of applications from audio coding and decoding to voice over packet systems. The ZSP500 is a high performance signal processing solution for applications including multimedia and 3G wireless baseband processing.
