SUNNYVALE, Calif., February 7, 2005 - Silicon Image, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIMG), a leader in multi-gigabit semiconductor solutions for the secure transmission and storage of rich digital media, today announced the shipment of its 100 millionth chip. This milestone shipment of PanelLink® SiI 9021™ HDMI™ receivers was delivered to ATI for inclusion with its popular XILLEON digital TV (DTV) product line.
"Silicon Image has a proven track record of providing reliable, high-performance DVI and HDMI receivers," stated Mei Ang, manager, Strategic Hardware Alliances at ATI. "Silicon Image is a valued supplier, and we rely upon them to supply us with high-speed digital I/O solutions for our DTV product lines as well as our PC add-in board products. We continue to be pleased with the consistent quality and interoperability offered by Silicon Image's PanelLink solutions, which are easy for us to design and integrate. Silicon Image also backs up their solutions with a high level of customer support."
Rob Valiton, Silicon Image vice president of worldwide sales, noted, "Silicon Image has established a reputation as the gold standard for implementation in the consumer electronics, PC and storage markets. Our PanelLink and SATALink™-branded solutions are associated with the highest performance, quality and interoperability. Our PanelLink HDMI ICs were the first in production and remain the market leader. HDMI has become a differentiating feature for DTVs, and HDMI adoption is on the rise because manufacturers such as ATI recognize that it provides their customers with the benefits of pure-digital audio and video quality over a single cable."
PanelLink is the industry's first and most widely adopted implementation of the DVI and HDMI specifications, which are based on Silicon Image's Transition-Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS®) technology. Targeted at digital TVs, the SiI 9021 receiver boasts dual HDMI inputs for simultaneous connection of multiple HDMI source devices such as DVD players and high-definition (HD) set-top boxes. Priced at a lower cost per port than Silicon Image's first-generation HDMI solutions and comparably priced with earlier-generation DVI-HDCP devices, the SiI 9021 provides TV manufacturers a cost-effective means of implementing multiple HDMI ports. The SiI 9021 supports 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions as well as PC resolutions up to SXGA.
