Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS Support for Texas Instruments' OMAP1710 Platform Benefits Cellular Handset Applications DevelopersMOBILE, Ala., Feb. 9, 2005 -Accelerated Technology®, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced the availability of the Nucleus® real-time operating system (RTOS) for Texas Instruments Incorporated's (TI's) OMAP1710 processor. The integration of the Nucleus software and TI's OMAP1710 application processor gives developers of cellular handset applications a full-featured, high-performance solution in which to develop differentiated 2.5G and 3G multimedia-enhanced mobile devices and software applications. The OMAP1710 processor handles a variety of application tasks in parallel so a user can enjoy several features and services concurrently. The OMAP1710 processor engines include an ARM™ processor, a TI Digital Signal Processing (DSP) engine, a range of software and hardware accelerators for video encoding and decoding, still picture compression, Java™ and security. The combined OMAP1710 processor and scalable Nucleus RTOS, with associated middleware, provide members of TI's OMAP™ Developer Network with a robust solution to design feature-rich multimedia capabilities for cellular devices. The Nucleus PLUS kernel--the basis of the Nucleus family of products, and a widely accepted kernel for building cellular phone applications--is ideal for the feature-rich capabilities that customers require from their multimedia applications. Other available Nucleus components for the OMAP1710 processor include the Nucleus POSIX application program interface (API), the Nucleus SHELL command line interface and the Nucleus FILE file management software. In addition, Accelerated Technology's royalty-free business model makes the Nucleus software especially attractive to the high-volume handset market, as the royalty-free solution enables manufacturers to reduce costs that would normally be passed on to their customers. Accelerated Technology has increased its support for the OMAP platform by adding a new product, the Nucleus InterProcess Communication (IPC) software, which contains a well-documented, easy-to-use API allowing high-speed communications and data transport between the DSP and ARM microcontroller. The Nucleus IPC software makes this transport possible without the engineer's concern for word-size, byte and bit ordering or other differences between the DSP and ARM cores. "The Accelerated Technology Nucleus RTOS combined with TI's OMAP1710 processor delivers a high-performance solution for handset developers," said Paul Werp, TI marketing director, Cellular Systems. "Members of TI's OMAP Developer Network are driving multimedia applications for 2.5G and 3G mobile terminals. By adding the Nucleus support from Accelerated Technology on the OMAP platform, we are speeding the deployment of feature phones and innovative applications." "Our Nucleus software and TI's OMAP architecture is a win-win combination for embedded developers of today's and next-generation cellular products," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division. "Developers can now more rapidly and reliably develop these products to meet high-volume market needs." Pricing and Availability The Nucleus embedded software is sold with source code and without royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus software begin at $12,495.
