3GSM World Congress 2005: StarCore Presents Speech Codecs at Booth H18 in Hall 3StarCore SC2400 Core Wins Microprocessor Report Analysts' Choice Award as Best DSP Licensable Core of 2004 Austin, TX — February 14, 2005 — StarCore, the world’s fastest-growing provider of licensable processor core technologies, is now providing StarCodec™ speech codecs. Realizing the challenges that its customers may have in acquiring high-quality speech codecs on increasingly tight schedules, StarCore invested in the design of a family of high-quality, ready-to-implement speech codecs for use with StarCore™ processors and subsystems. These highly optimized GSM speech codecs comply with the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP™) technical specifications. The StarCodec product family includes the StarCodec GSM Half-Rate (HR), GSM Full-Rate (FR), GSM Enhanced Full-Rate (EFR), and Combo Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) and EFR speech codecs. The StarCodec speech codecs, available in either object-code or source-code form, are optimized for the wireless handset market on SC1200 and SC1400 cores and offer an extremely small memory footprint and very low cycle count. To learn more about the StarCodec speech codecs and how they benefit our customers, visit the StarCore booth (booth H18 in hall 3) at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, from February 14 to 17, 2005. Another highlight at the leading wireless trade show will be the recently announced StarCore SC2200 and SC2400 synthesizable, licensable processor cores that are optimized for multimedia, communications, and consumer applications. "Microprocessor Report has awarded the StarCore SC2400 processor core the Analysts' Choice Award as the best DSP licensable core of 2004," states Max Baron, senior editor and principal analyst. Baron continues, “In the DSP licensable core category, the analysts explain that they chose StarCore’s SC2400 core because it is the leading processor with its 4-SIMD MAC architecture capable of executing four 16-bit multiplies per cycle, memory-mapped support for customer accelerators, memory protection, and a short pipe.” The SC2000 product family features new instructions that accelerate video coding (such as H.264 and MPEG-4) and reduce code size. New user and privileged modes and a memory protection unit enable easier porting of real-time operating systems and the convergence of several embedded applications on a single StarCore processor core. System developers can take advantage of this feature to reduce the number of cores in a product, thus reducing cost, power consumption, and design complexity. And, since StarCore technology offers backward binary code compatibility across all product families, programmers and engineering managers can move swiftly to market without the significant recoding effort that is required with other processors. The SC2200 and SC2400 cores are scalable and synthesizable, making them ideal for a broad spectrum of applications, including wireless communications and mobile multimedia devices.
