Xilinx R&D Center in India Helping Customers Worldwide Benefit From Programmable Chip Technologies; Creates 12 IP Cores in First Year of Operation Through Partnership with CMC HYDERBAD, India, March 17 -- Xilinx, Inc., the world's leading supplier of programmable chips, today announced that its India development center, operated by CMC in Hyderabad, has successfully created 12 Intellectual Property (IP) cores in its first year of operation. IP cores are off-the-shelf, pre-defined hardware design modules that Xilinx customers can use to reduce their design efforts, lower total costs, increase performance and get to market faster. These IP cores developed in India are available for use by the Xilinx worldwide customer base of over 7,500 companies with several hundred thousand design engineers generating 50,000 design starts annually. In addition to being verified and optimized for Xilinx programmable silicon platforms, including advanced 90nm devices, they are suitable for telecommunications, consumer electronics and automotive applications. "We placed a bet that India could be an integral part of our global R&D ecosystem and we won, thanks to our highly-talented local product development team and our collaboration with CMC," said Mr. Wim Roelandts, Chairman, President and CEO of Xilinx. "We are encouraged by our first-year achievements in our Indian development center and will be investing further in this strategic source of IP cores for our customers around the world." As a fully operational R&D facility for Xilinx, the Indian development center has 30 staff covering the entire product development cycle including design, verification and testing. Through its strategic partnership with CMC, Xilinx estimates it has been able to set up the R&D center in half the time needed to build one on its own. CMC's support has also enabled the Xilinx development work in India to ramp-up immediately with the first three IP cores completed within the initial three months of the partnership. Based on its early progress, the Hyderabad-based facility is expected to grow to 300 employees within the next several years as it continues its R&D work to help Xilinx customers maximize the benefits of programmability in their product designs. "Our successful start is a direct result of the commitment from both Xilinx and CMC to develop a pool of local semiconductor R&D talent, thereby contributing to the growth of the Indian IC industry," said Mr. Akshya Prakash, Managing Director of the Xilinx-CMC India Development Center. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with CMC to grow our R&D momentum and establish Xilinx programmable chips as the preferred IC choice in India and around the world." "Our partnership with Xilinx over the past year has met all our expectations for developing world-class hardware design modules out of our local R&D center," said Mr. R. Ramanan, Managing Director and CEO of CMC. "We have established a viable business model where the industry-leading programmable chip technologies of Xilinx and the best-of-breed talent and processes at CMC are a winning, sustainable combination in the Indian semiconductor market."
