MediaWorks Renews Contract for Tensilica's Configurable Processors
Update: Cadence Completes Acquisition of Tensilica (Apr 24, 2013)
Xtensa Processors Used in High-Performance MediaFlex™ Media Platform Architecture
Santa Clara, Calif. – January 25, 2006 – Tensilica, Inc. today announced that MediaWorks Integrated Systems, Inc. has renewed and upgraded its license for the company’s Xtensa configurable processors. Under the new license, MediaWorks will design future products using Tensilica’s latest advanced Xtensa LX processor technology.
MediaWorks employs Xtensa processors in their recently announced groundbreaking MediaFlex™ platform architecture and MW301 Media Processor. The MediaFlex™ platform architecture consists of multiple Tensilica configurable, programmable processors in a heterogeneous processor configuration along with integrated peripherals to create a true highly integrated SOC for multimedia applications. MediaFlex™ currently supports the recording and playback of D1 resolution video at 30 fps, using a wide range of standards including MPEG-4 ASP, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DivX, H.264, and Windows Media Video. Audio standard supported including AAC, MP3 and WMA with DRM. System on chip (SOC) designs based on the MediaFlex™ architecture give manufacturers complete control over the design and customization of their products with full C code programmability, allowing for easy upgrades with firmware supporting either new features or completely new compression formats. More information on the MediaFlex™ platform is available at www.mediaworks-isi.com.
“Tensilica’s Xtensa processors are a key component of our MediaFlex™ platform and allow us to provide our customers with a totally programmable, flexible, high-performance solution,” stated Dennis Cocco, Co-founder, President and CEO of MediaWorks. “At the Consumer Electronics Show, MediaFlex™ generated a huge amount of interest due to its leading edge features and advanced systems design.”
“We are proud to be an integral part of MediaWorks’ innovative MediaFlex™ platform,” stated Steve Roddy, Vice President of Marketing at Tensilica. “By employing multiple Tensilica Xtensa processors, Mediaworks has developed a platform that will be a significant boost to the evolution of portable electronics that feature premium quality audio and video.”
