Imagination Technologies' PowerVR MBX Graphics Accelerator Technology Used in Freescale's MPC5121e Processor
May 22, 2007
Imagination Technologies Group plc (LSE:IMG; "Imagination") – a leader in System-on-Chip Intellectual Property ("SoC IP") – reports that Freescale Semiconductor (“Freescale”), a global leader in the design and manufacture of embedded semiconductors, has utilized Imagination’s PowerVR® MBX graphics core technology in its advanced MPC5121e multi-core processor launched today for telematics, industrial control and consumer applications.
This product results from the multi-use licensing of PowerVR MBX technology to Freescale, previously announced, and represents the expansion of the relationship outside of the mobile market and into automotive semiconductors.
The MPC5121e processor integrates PowerVR MBX and VGP Lite 2D/3D acceleration with Freescale's Display Integration Unit (DIU) to help reduce overall system cost while increasing graphics capabilities significantly compared to previous generations of competitive parts. The graphics core is integrated with Freescale’s e300 core, built on Power Architecture™ technology.
Under the terms of its licensing arrangements Imagination receives royalty revenues on SoCs incorporating Imagination’s IP shipped by partners.
