Virage Logic Establishes Corporation and R&D Center of Excellence in the Netherlands
Joshua Rom Named Managing Director of Virage Logic's New Netherlands B.V. Entity and General Manager of New Analog Solutions Business Unit
EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands & FREMONT, Calif. -- Jan 11, 2010 -- Virage Logic Corporation (NASDAQ:VIRL), the semiconductor industry's trusted IP partner, today announced it has established a Dutch corporation (B.V.) in conjunction with its new research and development (R&D) center of excellence in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The new site has been established as a result of Virage Logic's recent acquisition of NXP's horizontal advanced CMOS intellectual property (IP) rights and certain engineering talent and equipment. Virage Logic's Netherlands' R&D center will develop new products based on the acquired advanced CMOS I/Os, analog mixed signal and System-on-Chip (SoC) infrastructure IP, and will also provide on-going support to NXP. The new products will further the company's position as a leading independent IP provider to the global semiconductor industry.
The company also announced today that it has named Joshua Rom as the managing director of Virage Logic's Netherlands B.V. entity and general manager of its newly formed Analog Business Unit. In these roles, Rom will be responsible for leading all operational aspects of the company's Netherlands' R&D center of excellence, establishing a thriving new Analog business unit and furthering the company's longstanding successful partnership with NXP Semiconductors.
"More than a decade ago, Virage Logic was founded on the vision that an independent IP company could provide the technically superior building blocks the global semiconductor industry needs to develop highly differentiated products more cost effectively and deliver them to market more quickly," said Dr. Alex Shubat, president, CEO and co-founder of Virage Logic. "Today more than 400 customers rely on Virage Logic as their trusted IP partner and with the opening of our Netherlands' R&D center of excellence, we look forward to the key contributions the talented team here will make to further broaden our product line. By productizing NXP's advanced CMOS IP technology, we will be able to serve as an even stronger trusted partner to the global SoC design community as they build products to meet their end market requirements."
During the opening ceremonies, Dutch Minister Van der Hoeven of Economical Affairs said she was very pleased about the opening of the new R&D center and thanked the N.V. Noord-Brabant Development Agency and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), which have contributed significantly to the establishment of Virage Logic in the Netherlands. "More and more of the world's leading companies and knowledge institutes are finding their way to The Netherlands and in particular, more are finding their way to Brainport Eindhoven. We are pleased to welcome Virage Logic to the region and we will continue to support new world-class establishments in this geographical area, which is regarded as a cutting-edge European region in technology. The Eindhoven region has already been called the 'Silicon Valley of the Netherlands'. Let's do everything we can to live up to this reputation," said Minister Van der Hoeven.
"I am excited and honored to lead Virage Logic's new Netherlands B.V. entity and Analog Business Unit," said Joshua Rom. "NXP is a highly respected European high-tech company and I speak for the entire Virage Logic Netherlands team when I say we are excited to productize and bring this world class technology to the global SoC design community."
