Zoran Corporation selected RT-RK to port Android to its SOCs
Agree to Develop Additional Applications For DTV and STB Products
SUNNYVALE, California, and NOVI SAD, Serbia - April 4th, 2011 - RT-RK, a leading provider of embedded system design and system software development services in the field of consumer electronics, was selected by Zoran Corporation, a global leader in semiconductors for consumer electronics, to develop multimedia applications and services for connected TV and set-top box applications.
There has already been a successful porting of Google’s Android Operating System to Zoran’s SupraHD® and SupraXD® processor platforms for DTV and set-top box products.
“Today, consumers continue to demand more information - from the latest news, weather, and stock market reports - to sports videos and travel recommendations. Our goal is to offer them an easy-to-access-information experience in a single, stable and functional application. At the same time, we want to provide them with the personal services they need such as e-mail, video games, movies and content on demand,” said Nikola Teslic, CTO and Deputy General Manager at RT-RK. “Last year, we expanded the number of consumer devices supported by our Network Media Player application, which includes Zoran processors. Now, thanks to the successful porting of the Android OS to Zoran’s TV SOCs, we are supporting the applications consumers want in connected televisions.”
“Consumer demand for Internet services continues to grow exponentially and our work with RT-RK is enabling the key software applications consumers want on their Connected TVs. Delivering our reference platforms that comply with the most advanced Connected TV requirements around the world, including Android support, demonstrates Zoran’s global connected CE strategy to enable our OEM and ODM customers to deliver high performance, competitive products on a timely basis without excessive development expenses,” said Mustafa Ozgen, Vice President and General Manager, Zoran’s digital TV business unit, Home Entertainment division.
