Hillcrest Labs' Freespace Always-On Sensing Software Available on Cadence Tensilica DSP
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 24, 2015—Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS) and Hillcrest Labs today announced that a port of Hillcrest’s patented Freespace® always-on sensing software is now available for Cadence® Tensilica® digital signal processors (DSPs). With Tensilica DSPs and the Freespace software, designers can develop chips for advanced activity tracking, intelligent context awareness, intuitive gesture recognition, accurate navigation and other functions in wearable electronics and mobile devices. Hillcrest’s SH-1 Sensor Hub is scheduled to be demonstrated from March 2 to 6, 2015, at the Cadence booth in hall 6, stand 6L36, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Freespace always-on sensing can dramatically extend battery life through context-aware power savings as well as enable a range of new applications for wearable and mobile devices. Freespace software can be integrated with voice, audio, touch and other functions on a single hub to enable the most cost-effective ways to extend battery life and add advanced sensor functions to devices.
“Sensor hubs are driving a user experience revolution by extending battery life and adding ‘always-on’ sensor applications to mobile and wearable devices,” said Chad Lucien, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing at Hillcrest Labs. “Tensilica DSPs provide an excellent foundation for ultra-low-power sensor hubs, and we are excited to work with Cadence’s customers to create context aware devices with new sensor enabled user experiences and longer battery life.”
“Hillcrest’s Freespace sensor processing technology is a great match for our DSPs. Our joint customers can benefit from a combination of outstanding user experience and optimal battery performance,” stated Larry Przywara, group director of audio/voice IP marketing at Cadence.
