Arteris IP FlexNoC Interconnect Licensed by Arbe Robotics for Automotive Imaging Radar Chipset
Interconnect IP improves on-chip bandwidth and latency to help enable Level 4 and 5 autonomous driving
CAMPBELL, Calif. — February 14, 2018 — Arteris IP, the innovative supplier of silicon-proven commercial system-on-chip (SoC) interconnect intellectual property (IP), today announced that Arbe Robotics has licensed Arteris FlexNoC interconnect IP for use in their 4D High-resolution Automotive Radar chipset.
Arbe Robotics pioneered the first ever automotive system to provide real-time 4D mapping in high resolution, thus making any vehicle fully-autonomous. Their groundbreaking team of technologists, radar specialists and scientists has designed a system that offers an extremely high resolution at long, mid and short ranges in both azimuth and elevation, and outputs an image of the environment at up to 50 times per second.
“Our proprietary chipset is optimized for providing a 4D Real-Time Picture of the environment, detecting obstacles at a range of 300 meters with a wide field of view at ultra-high resolution, resulting in billions of operations per second that identify and classify objects. Arteris FlexNoC met our exceptionally stringent requirements for on-chip bandwidth and latency to accomplish this undertaking,” said Kobi Marenko, CEO of Arbe Robotics.
Executing the complex calculations required for High-resolution Imaging Radar necessitates the development of a system-on-chip with multiple heterogeneous processing elements tuned to these autonomous driving algorithms. However, the technical challenge is not only to optimize processing on each hardware accelerator, but also to ensure these accelerators can receive and send the data within the near real-time latency bounds and at the huge bandwidths required to ensure calculations complete within a functionally safe time range. Arbe Robotics licensed Arteris FlexNoC IP as their on-chip interconnect to ensure that these bandwidth and latency quality-of-service metrics are met.
“We are honored that the technical experts at Arbe Robotics have chosen Arteris FlexNoC IP as the on-chip interconnect for their 4D synthetic aperture radar controller chips,” said K. Charles Janac, President and CEO of Arteris IP. “Arbe Robotics’ choice of Arteris interconnect IP is proof of our technology’s value as the communications backbone of autonomous driving systems.”
